Business Session B: Opportunities for Competitive Manufacturing (with sectoral potentials)

James J. Emery is Head of Strategy for the global Manufacturing, Agribusiness and Services Industry Department at the International Finance Corporation (IFC). In this capacity he is responsible for developing and communicating IFC’s strategy to promote economic development through sustainable private investment in these sectors. Jim monitors global trends in these sectors and works to increase the development impact of IFC’s operations. He was previously in a similar Strategy leadership role for IFC in the Sub-Saharan Africa region.
Jim has also been a member of the task force examining IFC’s role in Fragile and Conflict-Affected countries globally, and was a contributor to the 2011 World Development Report on Conflict, Security and Development. Prior to this he was the Principal Operations Officer of IFC’s Private Enterprise Partnership in Africa based in Johannesburg, providing Advisory Services to African governments on improving their investment climate. Earlier in his career at IFC Mr. Emery has also served as Regional Economist for Africa, and as Program Manager for Africa at the Foreign Investment Advisory Service. Prior to joining IFC, Mr. Emery had a career in international development consulting. He holds the Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, and a B.A. in Economics from Reed College.
